Srinagar, February 27:
Jammu and Kashmir is poised to emerge as a year-round global tourism destination, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said while outlining the government’s vision for expanding the Union Territory’s tourism sector.
Speaking at a tourism promotion event, the Chief Minister emphasized that J&K has the potential to attract visitors in all seasons — from winter sports in Gulmarg to summer retreats in Pahalgam and spiritual tourism in Jammu. He stressed that the government is working to strengthen infrastructure, improve connectivity, and diversify tourism offerings.
Omar Abdullah said the administration is focusing on developing new tourist circuits, promoting heritage and cultural tourism, and encouraging investment in hospitality and adventure tourism. He added that sustained efforts are being made to restore and upgrade facilities to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for visitors.
The Chief Minister highlighted that tourism remains a backbone of Jammu and Kashmir’s economy, generating employment and supporting thousands of families. By positioning the region as a year-round destination, the government aims to increase tourist footfall, boost local businesses, and enhance global visibility.
Officials stated that several new destinations are being identified and developed to reduce pressure on traditional hotspots while spreading economic benefits to remote areas.
With improved infrastructure and focused promotion, Jammu and Kashmir is expected to witness significant growth in domestic as well as international tourism in the coming years.
