No Hike in Power Tariff Since December 2023, Says CM Omar Abdullah in Assembly

Jammu/Srinagar:
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, while replying to a question in the Legislative Assembly, informed the House that there has been no increase in power tariff in Jammu and Kashmir since December 2023.
Clarifying concerns regarding electricity billing, the Chief Minister stated that billing in metered areas is strictly carried out on the basis of actual electricity consumption. He emphasized that consumers with installed meters are charged according to the units of electricity they use, ensuring transparency and fairness in the billing process.
Addressing the issue of non-metered areas, the Chief Minister explained that electricity bills are generated on a flat-rate basis as per the agreed load. He assured the House that there is no arbitrariness in the billing system and that the process follows established norms and regulations.
The clarification comes amid public discussions regarding electricity charges and billing practices across the Union Territory.
The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining transparency and accountability in the power sector while ensuring that consumers are billed in a fair and systematic manner.
