J&K Govt Collected ₹50 Crore from Unemployed Youth as Exam Fees: Assembly Data Reveals

Srinagar, February 13, 2026: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has reportedly collected nearly ₹50 crore from unemployed youth over the past two years through application and examination fees charged by JKPSC and the Jammu & Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB), according to official figures presented in the Assembly.
The revelation has sparked criticism from opposition leaders and job aspirants, who allege that recruitment agencies have been turned into revenue-generating bodies amid rising unemployment concerns.
With the unemployment rate in Jammu & Kashmir reportedly at 6.7% — nearly double the national average of 3.5% — questions are being raised over the burden placed on job-seeking youth. Meanwhile, government sources maintain that recruitment processes have been accelerated. However, reports indicate that nearly 80,000 posts remain vacant across departments.
The issue has intensified the debate around employment generation and recruitment transparency in the Union Territory.
