DC Kathua Rolls Out Action Plan for International Women’s Day; Week-Long Celebrations from March 2–8

Kathua, February 19:
Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Rajesh Sharma, today chaired a meeting to roll out a comprehensive action plan for the celebration of Women Week across the district from March 2 to March 8, 2026, in observance of International Women’s Day.
The meeting was attended by ADDC Surinder Mohan Sharma, CPO Ranjeet Thakur, PO ICDS Mohammed Syed, ACD Akhil Sadotra, DSWO Varun Chaudhary and other district and sectoral officers. ADCs and SDMs also participated virtually.

During the meeting, a structured and result-oriented framework of activities was deliberated and finalized to ensure meaningful and impactful observance of the week. The action plan envisions active participation of all line departments, educational institutions, and civil society organizations to promote women empowerment and gender equality at the grassroots level.

As per the schedule, the week-long celebrations will feature cultural performances highlighting the achievements and contributions of women, sports activities such as Walkathon and Marathon to encourage fitness and participation, legal and safety awareness programmes, cyber security awareness sessions, free medical camps, motivational lectures, and felicitation of women achievers from various fields.
Special emphasis will be placed on activities under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative, including awareness drives, interactive sessions in schools and colleges, and outreach programmes aimed at reinforcing the importance of girl child education and protection.

The Deputy Commissioner stressed the need for coordinated and sustained efforts to ensure that the celebrations move beyond symbolic observance and translate into tangible empowerment outcomes. He directed all departments and field functionaries to ensure effective convergence of schemes, extensive outreach in both rural and urban areas, and maximum community participation.
Calling for a multi-pronged approach and seamless inter-departmental coordination, the DC instructed officials to finalize a detailed calendar of events and ensure wide publicity across the district to maximize participation.

The week-long programme aims to celebrate the spirit, strength, and achievements of women while fostering a more inclusive and equitable society.
