CM Omar Abdullah Inaugurates AgriTech Mela ‘Gongul-2026’ at SKUAST-K

Srinagar, February 14:
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday inaugurated the annual AgriTech Mela titled ‘Gongul-2026’ at the prestigious Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K).
The Chief Minister was accompanied by Cabinet Minister Sakina Itoo, MLA Noorabad Javid Ahmad Dar, senior officials, agricultural scientists, and progressive farmers from across Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing the gathering, Omar Abdullah emphasized the importance of technological innovation in transforming the agriculture sector in Jammu and Kashmir. He highlighted the need to bridge the gap between research institutions and farmers to ensure better productivity, sustainability, and income generation.
The Chief Minister appreciated SKUAST-K for organizing the AgriTech Mela, which serves as a platform for farmers to interact directly with scientists, explore modern farming techniques, and learn about advanced tools, high-yield crop varieties, and sustainable agricultural practices.
Cabinet Minister Sakina Itoo reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening rural livelihoods and ensuring that farmers receive institutional support, training, and access to modern technology. MLA Javid Ahmad Dar also stressed the importance of empowering youth through agri-entrepreneurship initiatives.
The ‘Gongul-2026’ Mela features exhibitions of innovative agricultural machinery, organic farming practices, horticulture advancements, livestock management solutions, and interactive sessions aimed at promoting climate-resilient agriculture in the region.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from farmers, students, researchers, and agri-startups, reflecting the growing interest in technology-driven agricultural development in Jammu and Kashmir.
