Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has assured the Legislative Assembly that any action against illegal encroachments will be carried out in a fair and transparent manner, beginning with those who misuse power and influence.
Speaking in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, the Chief Minister said, “I want to clearly assure this House that any action against encroachments will begin with those who misuse power, political influence, and unfair means to protect illegal occupation. It will not start with the poor.”
He emphasized that if action is required, it will first target the wealthy and influential individuals who have allegedly used their status to shield illegal occupations. The move, he said, is aimed at ensuring fairness, justice, and equal application of the law.
The statement comes amid ongoing discussions regarding land and property encroachments across the Union Territory. The Chief Minister’s remarks were seen as an attempt to address concerns that anti-encroachment drives might disproportionately affect economically weaker sections.
Reaffirming his government’s commitment to justice, Omar Abdullah stressed that the rule of law will prevail and that no one, regardless of position or influence, will be above the law.
