Jammu, February 4:
The Chief Minister today inaugurated the newly constructed 243-bedded maternity block at SMGS Hospital, marking a major milestone in strengthening maternal and child healthcare services in the Jammu region.
The state-of-the-art maternity block has been constructed at a cost of ₹31.59 crore and is equipped with advanced critical care delivery services and a modern operation theatre (OT) complex. The facility is expected to significantly enhance the hospital’s capacity to provide specialized and timely care to mothers and newborns.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the new block reflects the government’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and ensuring quality medical services for women and children. He emphasized that such projects are vital for reducing maternal and infant mortality and for providing safe, accessible healthcare to all sections of society.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by Health Minister Sakina Itoo, Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani Sogami, and other senior officials.
Health Minister Sakina Itoo, who represents Noorabad and is a senior leader of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, said that the new maternity block will greatly benefit expecting mothers by providing comprehensive healthcare services under one roof.
The inauguration of the maternity block has been widely welcomed by healthcare professionals and the public, who see it as a significant step towards improving the overall healthcare delivery system in Jammu and Kashmir.
