Budgam, February 20, 2026:
In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Budgam Police have arrested two alleged drug peddlers in the Magam area and recovered a substantial quantity of contraband substances from their possession.
According to official sources, the arrests were made during routine patrolling at Batapora, Kanahama. A police team from Police Station Magam, led by ASI Tariq Ahmad, observed two individuals moving suspiciously near Government Primary School Batapora. Upon noticing the police presence, the suspects attempted to flee but were swiftly apprehended by the alert police personnel.
The accused have been identified as Mohammad Shafi Bhat, son of Abdul Ahad Bhat, a resident of Batapora Kanahama, and Ubaid Farooq Bhat, son of Farooq Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Agrikalan Magam.
During the search operation, police recovered approximately 1 kilogram and 188 grams of a semi-grinded charas-like substance from Mohammad Shafi Bhat. Additionally, 522 grams of a similar substance were recovered from Ubaid Farooq Bhat.
In connection with the case, FIR No. 17/2026 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Magam. Further investigation is currently underway.
Budgam Police reiterated their firm commitment to eliminating the drug menace from society and urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by sharing any information related to narcotic activities to help build a drug-free Jammu & Kashmir.
