Budgam Police Arrest Drug Peddler, Nab Gamblers; Contraband and Cash Seized


Budgam, February 09, 2026:
Budgam Police have intensified their crackdown on drug trafficking and other illegal activities, arresting a drug peddler in the Magam area and apprehending three individuals involved in gambling in two separate operations.
In the first incident, a police team from Police Station Magam, led by Head Constable Maqbool Ahmed, intercepted a suspicious vehicle during routine patrolling at Railway Link Road, Mazhama. Upon search, police recovered 13 bottles of Codeine Phosphate syrup (without labels) from the vehicle and seven strips of Tapentadol tablets (100 mg) from the personal possession of the driver.

The accused has been identified as Aijaz Ahmad Sheikh, son of Ghulam Nabi Sheikh, resident of Kanihama. He was arrested on the spot, and FIR No. 13/2026 under Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Magam. Further investigation is in progress.

In a separate operation, acting on specific information, a police party from Police Station Budgam led by PSI Aarif Mushtaq conducted a raid near Ompora Railway Crossing, where three persons were found involved in gambling activities. During the raid, police seized ₹4,600 as stake money along with playing cards.

The arrested individuals were identified as Fayaz Ahmad Bhat, Raqib Ahmad Ganie, and Abdul Hameed Hajam, all residents of Ompora, Budgam. In this regard, FIR No. 29/2026 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Budgam.

Budgam Police reiterated their resolve to maintain a crime-free district and warned that strict action will continue against those involved in drug trafficking, gambling, and other unlawful activities.
