Budgam, January 15, 2026: Budgam Police, continuing their drive against drug trafficking, have arrested three drug peddlers and seized contraband substances in the Magam area of the district.
A police team from Police Station Magam, led by SHO Inspector Mudasir Hussain, was on routine patrol at Fire Service Link Road, Magam, when they noticed three individuals warming themselves near the Humri Canal. On spotting the police vehicle, the suspects attempted to flee but were swiftly apprehended.
During a personal search, police recovered a charas-like substance weighing approximately 12 grams and processed Bang Patri weighing about 609 grams. The accused were arrested on the spot and the contraband was seized.
The arrested persons have been identified as Akther Abbas Bhat, son of Mohd Maqbool Bhat, resident of Yegipora, Magam; Suhail Bhat, son of Late Ali Mohd Bhat, resident of Kuchaypora, Magam; and Syed Ubaid-ul-Ashiq, son of Syed Ashiq Hussain, resident of Yegipora, Magam.
Accordingly, FIR No. 04/2026 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Magam, and further investigation is underway.
Budgam Police reiterated their commitment to eradicating drug abuse from society and urged the public to cooperate by sharing any information related to drug peddling or trafficking.
