Budgam Police Arrest ATM Fraud Accused; Investigation Ongoing

Budgam, January 10, 2026:
Budgam Police have arrested an accused involved in an ATM fraud case in the Magam area, reaffirming their commitment to swift investigation and strict action against financial crimes.
According to officials, Police Station Magam received a written complaint from Ghulam Ahmad Bhat, son of Ali Mohammad Bhat, a resident of Parraypora, Magam. The complainant alleged that an unknown person approached him at the J&K Bank ATM, Main Branch Magam, on the pretext of helping him withdraw cash. The accused allegedly exchanged the victim’s ATM card deceitfully and later withdrew money using the swapped card.
Following the complaint, FIR No. 01/2026 under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at Police Station Magam. A special police team was constituted, which, through sustained efforts and technical analysis, successfully traced and apprehended the accused from district Baramulla.
The arrested individual has been identified as Abdul Nayeem Khan, son of Jalal-ud-Din Khan, resident of Drangbal, Baramulla. Further investigation into the case is underway to ascertain any additional links or involvement.
Budgam Police have reiterated their resolve to act firmly against financial frauds and have advised the public to remain vigilant while using ATMs, especially against unsolicited assistance from unknown persons.
