Srinagar, December 04: Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana, today met multiple delegations from various parts of Kashmir, who highlighted several critical public issues affecting their regions.
The delegations raised concerns over the pending payments of contractors under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), stating that prolonged delays were causing hardships and slowing down developmental works. They also sought an update on the status of the Lift Irrigation Scheme in Tral, a key project vital for agricultural and horticultural sectors.
Another major demand put forth was the urgent requirement for adequate firewood supply across the Kashmir division amid the intensifying winter season.
Taking swift action, the Minister immediately held a review meeting with the Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF) Kashmir and senior Forest Department officials to assess the present stock position and distribution mechanism of timber and firewood.
Rana issued firm directions to ensure timely and adequate availability of firewood to the public, stressing that any administrative delays must be rectified without fail.
Regarding JJM contractor payments and the Lift Irrigation Scheme, the Minister assured the delegations that he would personally follow up with the concerned departments and accord top priority to their resolution.
Reaffirming the Omar Abdullah Government’s commitment to responsive and people-centric governance, Rana said the administration is fully dedicated to resolving public grievances proactively and ensuring smooth implementation of welfare projects across Jammu and Kashmir.
