Sopore, December 27: The Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the Sopore constituency, Irshad Rasool Kar, today unveiled a comprehensive strategy to harness the area’s vast tourism potential through focused infrastructure development, with the long-pending Eco Park project as the flagship initiative.
Addressing the issue, MLA Kar highlighted the critical importance of the Eco Park project originally under the Wular & Mansabal Development Authority (WUCMA). The project, estimated at around ₹3.75 crore, is now being actively pursued after years of delay. He stated that the Eco Park would play a vital role in boosting tourism, providing recreational spaces, and enhancing the overall appeal of the Sopore constituency.
The proposed Eco Park will feature modern amenities including gazebos, walking tracks, an amphitheater, and retail spaces. A key objective of the project is to create a dedicated platform for promoting aqua-tourism-related products and services, which is expected to provide a direct economic boost to the local population.
Looking beyond the WUCMA site, the MLA outlined a broader eco-tourism roadmap for Sopore. This includes upgradation of the existing Eco Park at Tulibal and the development of a new 10-hectare park at Watlab. He expressed confidence that the timely completion of these projects would significantly accelerate tourism growth in the constituency in the near future.
Acknowledging previous setbacks, MLA Kar confirmed that substantive work on these priority tourism projects has resumed during the current financial year.
Emphasising inclusive development, the MLA reaffirmed his commitment to integrating the local fisher community into the expanding tourism ecosystem. He said the initiatives aim to generate employment opportunities and ensure that the fisher community benefits directly from the constituency’s growing tourism potential.
Providing updates on other infrastructure projects, MLA Kar informed that the Nigli Rest House project is presently inactive, but efforts are underway to secure administrative approvals for its revival as a tourism facility. Additionally, plans are progressing to develop Sopore’s largest joggers park at Eidgah, further strengthening recreational infrastructure in the area.
The initiatives, he said, reflect a long-term vision to position Sopore as a prominent eco-tourism destination while ensuring sustainable and community-centric development.
