Continuing its sustained drive against illegal timber smuggling, Jammu (Rural) Police, in coordination with the Forest Department, achieved a significant success by intercepting camels being used for the illegal transportation of Khair wood in the jurisdiction of Police Station Gharota.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding the smuggling of Khair wood using camels, a joint team of Police Station Gharota and the Forest Department conducted a checking operation during the intervening night of December 28/29, 2025, at Sarote village in the Gharota area.
During the operation, two camels were intercepted and found carrying Khair wood weighing approximately 10–15 quintals, which was being illegally transported for commercial purposes.
After completing all legal formalities, the seized Khair wood along with the camels was taken into custody. A report has been entered at Police Station Gharota, and the seized property will be handed over to the Forest Department for further action under the relevant provisions of the Forest Act.
Jammu (Rural) Police reiterated their commitment to protecting forest resources and warned that strict action will continue against those involved in illegal forest-related activities.
