Jammu, December 28, 2025:
Continuing its drive against illegal timber smuggling, Jammu (Rural) Police seized a vehicle involved in the illegal transportation of Khair wood within the jurisdiction of Police Station Gharota.
During routine naka checking on the intervening night of December 27/28, 2025, a police team from Police Station Gharota established a special naka at the Ghorda area. A black Scorpio bearing registration number JK02X-0027 was signalled to stop; however, the driver attempted to flee and managed to escape.
On inspection, the vehicle was found loaded with Khair wood logs weighing approximately 15–20 quintals, being illegally transported for commercial purposes. The vehicle along with the seized Khair wood has been taken into police custody.
A report has been entered at Police Station Gharota, and the matter has been intimated to the Forest Department for further action under the relevant provisions of the Forest Act.
Jammu (Rural) Police reiterated their commitment to taking strict action against illegal forest produce smuggling and safeguarding natural resources.
