Kathua, November 17: In a significant action against illegal liquor trade, J&K Police Kathua, under the overall supervision of SSP Kathua Ms. Mohita Sharma (IPS), arrested one bootlegger and recovered 13 bottles of illicit XXX Rum from his possession in the jurisdiction of Police Station Billawar.
The action was taken on 16 November 2025, when a police team of P/S Billawar, led by SHO Insp. Zaheer Mushtaq and guided by SDPO Billawar Sh. Neeraj Padyar, had established a naka for checking and frisking vehicles in the area.
During the operation, the police spotted a suspicious individual carrying a bag and moving from Billawar towards Sukrala. On noticing the police, the individual attempted to flee, but the alert team chased and apprehended him.
Upon questioning, the suspect identified himself as Baldev Singh, S/o Hukum Chand, R/o Sadrota Orha Raya Sial, Tehsil Lohai Malhar, District Kathua. A search of his bag led to the recovery of 13 bottles of XXX Rum (750 ml each).
Following the recovery, a case FIR No. 170/2025 under Section 48(a) of the Excise Act was registered at Police Station Billawar. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
Police said the action reaffirms their commitment to curbing illegal activities and maintaining law and order in the district.
