Jammu, Nov 24 — Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday dismissed circulating rumours regarding a 20% increase in electricity tariff during peak hours. He clarified that the government has no proposal under consideration to raise power tariffs, and citizens should not fall prey to misinformation being spread on social media.
The Chief Minister said that ensuring affordable and uninterrupted electricity supply remains a top priority of the administration. He added that the government is working on measures to improve power infrastructure, reduce transmission losses, and enhance monitoring to curb electricity theft — rather than burdening consumers with additional charges.
Appealing to the public to rely on official announcements, Omar Abdullah urged people not to forward misleading messages that may cause panic and confusion among residents.
He assured that any future decisions related to power tariffs will be communicated transparently, keeping the interests of the common people in mind.
