LoP Sunil Sharma Urges LG Manoj Sinha to Ensure MBBS Admissions at SMVDIME Respect Sentiments of Mata Vaishno Devi Devotees

Jammu, November 23:
Leader of the Opposition in the J&K Legislative Assembly, Sunil Sharma, met Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhawan, Jammu, this evening to convey serious concerns over the recent MBBS admissions at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence (SMVDIME) — an institution functioning under the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board.

Sharma expressed strong displeasure over the ongoing selection process, stating that the recent admissions have sparked widespread discontent among devotees of Mata Vaishno Devi and sections of the Hindu community. He said that the selection of a large number of non-Hindu students has emotionally upset many devotees, who view institutions linked to the Shrine Board as culturally significant as well as academic.

Calling the issue sensitive and faith-related, the LoP urged the Lieutenant Governor to review admission criteria, increase transparency, and ensure the sentiments of the Hindu community and devotees are duly respected. He emphasized that expectations of devotees who have unwavering faith in Shrine Board–managed institutions should be appropriately factored in.

Sharma was accompanied by a delegation of BJP MLAs — Sham Lal Sharma, Surjeet Singh Salathia, Dr. Devinder Manyal, and R. S. Pathania. The delegation reiterated the BJP’s commitment to safeguarding cultural and religious sentiments, particularly those of the Hindu community.

The LoP underlined that the Shrine Board and its institutions represent not just educational platforms but also the cultural and spiritual identity of the region. Any decision perceived as neglecting the sentiments of devotees, he warned, could lead to broader social and emotional repercussions.

The delegation appealed to the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor to intervene urgently, address public grievances, and take corrective steps to restore confidence in the admission process.
