In a night to remember, the Indian Women’s Cricket Team scripted history by lifting their first-ever ICC Women’s World Cup trophy, defeating South Africa by 52 runs at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

Batting first, India posted an impressive 298/7 in 50 overs. Shafali Verma set the tone with a fluent 87 runs, while Deepti Sharma played a vital all-round role, scoring 58 runs and later claiming five wickets with the ball.

Chasing 299, South Africa put up a strong fight led by skipper Laura Wolvaardt, who scored a magnificent 101 runs, but her effort went in vain as the Proteas were bowled out for 246.

With this win, Team India etched their name in history, claiming their maiden Women’s World Cup title on home soil. Deepti Sharma was named Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament for her exceptional all-round performance.
