DM Rajouri Orders Immediate Suspension of VPN Services to Prevent Misuse

Rajouri, November 29: The District Administration Rajouri has ordered the immediate suspension of all Virtual Private Network (VPN) services across the district for two months to prevent potential misuse and ensure public safety.

The order was issued by District Magistrate Abhishek Sharma under Section 163 of the Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, following a report from the Senior Superintendent of Police, Rajouri, indicating a surge in suspicious and unprecedented use of VPN services in multiple areas.

According to the order, VPNs—which mask IP addresses, bypass firewalls, and enable encrypted data transmission—are being widely used by suspicious users, posing risks of being misused for anti-national activities. These may include spreading inflammatory content, coordinating unlawful actions, and facilitating cyber threats.

In view of maintaining peace and safeguarding sensitive information, the District Magistrate stated that preventive measures were essential to uphold public order.

The Senior Superintendent of Police, Rajouri, has been instructed to ensure strict enforcement of the directive.
