DC Kathua Reviews Progress of AMRUT 2.0 Water Supply Schemes — Focus on Priority Completion of OHTs and Pipe Networks Across Six Towns

Kathua, November 25:
Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Rajesh Sharma, today chaired a comprehensive review meeting to assess the implementation status of AMRUT 2.0 Water Supply Schemes in six towns of the district, with emphasis on fast-tracking crucial infrastructure components.

During the meeting, it was informed that under AMRUT 2.0, Kathua is executing a major water supply augmentation plan involving the construction of 14 tubewells, 14 Over Head Tanks (OHTs), 7 Sump Tanks/RSFPs, and extensive pipe distribution networks, expected to benefit 22,930 households. The towns under coverage include Kathua, Nagri, Lakhanpur, Hiranagar, Basohli and Billawar, each receiving a combination of water storage and distribution infrastructure to enhance urban water supply.

DC Rajesh Sharma directed the XEN PHE to prioritise the construction and completion of OHTs, terming them critical for stabilising the distribution system. He further instructed officials to ensure seamless execution of pipe networks immediately after OHT completion, so that targeted households receive water supply without delay.

Stressing interdepartmental cooperation, the DC urged for prompt resolution of utility shifting and ground-level clearance issues to avoid execution bottlenecks. He also emphasized strict adherence to timelines, quality benchmarks and accountability, enabling early commissioning of projects for maximum public benefit.

The meeting was attended by ADDC Kathua Surinder Mohan Sharma, CPO Ranjit Thakur, GM DIC Mushtaq Chaudhary, XEN PHE G.L. Gupta, XEN PDD Surinder Bhagat, CEO Kathua MC Amit Sharma, and other officials from concerned departments.
