61 Bottles of Illicit Whisky Seized in Kathua, One Bootlegger Arrested

KATHUA, November 06:
In a continued crackdown on illicit liquor trade, the Kathua Police on Tuesday seized 61 bottles of JK Excise Whisky and arrested one individual involved in illegal transportation of liquor in the jurisdiction of Police Station Rajbagh.

Acting under the supervision of SSP Kathua, Ms. Mohita Sharma (IPS), a police team led by SHO PS Rajbagh, Insp. Ajay Singh Chib, and supervised by SP Ops Kathua, Sh. Mukund Tibrewal (IPS) and SDPO Border, Sh. Dheeraj Katoch, intercepted a suspect during a naka checking at Bhamberwan area.

The accused has been identified as Amit Kumar, son of Sukh Dev, resident of Budhi, Tehsil & District Kathua. Upon checking, the police recovered 61 bottles of Whisky, including 06 bottles of 750 ml and 55 bottles of 180 ml of JK Special Whisky, from his possession.

A case FIR No. 214/2025 U/S 48(a) Excise Act has been registered at Police Station Rajbagh, and the accused has been taken into custody.

SSP Kathua Ms. Mohita Sharma (IPS) reaffirmed that the police will continue to take stern action against anyone found involved in the illegal trade or transportation of liquor. She urged the public to cooperate and report such activities to help maintain law and order in the region.

The general public has appreciated the proactive action of Kathua Police, stating that such strict measures will help deter others from indulging in similar illegal practices.
