Supreme Court’s Ruling on TET Sparks Nationwide Reactions; Bihar STET Admit Cards to Be Released Soon

October 4, 2025 – The Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) has once again become the center of attention across the country following the recent Supreme Court ruling making TET mandatory for both new appointments and teacher promotions.

In response, several states, including Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Uttar Pradesh, have decided to challenge or review the ruling, citing concerns about its impact on in-service teachers. Teachers’ associations in Uttar Pradesh have submitted a memorandum demanding that educators appointed before July 2011 be exempted from the TET requirement.

Meanwhile, in Maharashtra, the Exam Council has extended the last date for submitting applications for Maha TET 2025 till October 9, giving relief to candidates.

In Bihar, the School Examination Board (BSEB) has announced that admit cards for STET 2025 will be released on October 11, while the exam will be conducted on October 14, 2025, in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode.

The ruling has also raised concerns in West Bengal, where many teachers who were appointed before the TET mandate fear losing their jobs due to past exemptions and irregularities.

The Union and State governments have assured teachers that implementation will be done carefully to ensure fairness.
