The Battle of Gonzales marked the very first armed conflict of the Texas Revolution.

💥 When Mexican forces tried to reclaim a cannon given earlier to Texian settlers for protection, the people of Gonzales refused to surrender it. Instead, they raised a bold flag that read “Come and Take It” and fired the cannon to defend their stand.

⚔️ Though a small skirmish, this battle ignited the flames of revolution, ultimately leading to Texas’ independence in 1836.

👉 The phrase “Come and Take It” has since become a timeless symbol of defiance and freedom.
