Madras High Court Denies CBI Probe in Karur Stampede, Orders SIT Investigation
Chennai, October 03, 2025: The Madras High Court has refused to hand over the Karur stampede case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), instead ordering the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct a fair and speedy inquiry into the tragic incident that claimed several lives.

The court observed that there is no immediate need for CBI intervention as state-level agencies are capable of carrying out the probe. It directed the SIT to thoroughly investigate the case, identify accountability, and determine the role of organizers and officials responsible.

Expressing serious concern over safety measures at political rallies and mass gatherings, the High Court suggested that the government must formulate strict Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to avoid such tragedies in the future. The court also emphasized that adequate permissions, crowd control mechanisms, and safety measures should be ensured before any large political or social event.

👉 JK Update News Opinion: To prevent stampedes, there should be a law limiting the number of participants in political rallies, ensuring better crowd management and reducing the risk of such unfortunate incidents.

This development comes amid strong criticism from the opposition, which has accused the government and police administration of negligence. The focus now remains on the SIT report, which will reveal the true cause and responsibility behind the Karur tragedy.
