Government of Jammu and Kashmir Relaxes Qualification Bar Under Marriage Assistance Scheme for Poor Girls
Jammu, October 27, 2025:
The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has announced a major relaxation in the qualification requirements under the Marriage Assistance Scheme for Poor Girls. As per the latest Government Order No. 245-JK(SWD) of 2025, issued by the Social Welfare Department, the minimum educational qualification bar of 8th Class Pass or its equivalent has been relaxed up to March 31, 2028.

The decision, approved by the Council of Ministers on October 15, 2025, and concurred by the Finance Department, aims to ensure that eligible poor girls are not deprived of financial assistance for marriage due to educational qualification limitations.

According to the order, this relaxation shall be effective from April 1, 2025, onwards. The procedure for processing applications previously rejected on qualification grounds will also be detailed in Annexure “B” of the order.

The order has been issued under the approval of the Government and signed by Sarmad Hafeez, IAS, Commissioner Secretary to the Government, Social Welfare Department.

Copies of the order have been circulated to all Financial Commissioners, Administrative Secretaries, Divisional Commissioners, and relevant departments for necessary action and implementation.

This move is expected to provide significant relief to economically weaker families across Jammu and Kashmir, ensuring broader coverage under the Marriage Assistance Scheme.
