Anantnag, Oct 4, 2025:
In a major step against drug trafficking, Anantnag Police participated in the disposal of seized narcotics under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPSA) for the year 2025.
The disposal exercise was conducted at IGC Lassipora, Pulwama, in the presence of the Drug Disposal Committee, following all legal procedures mandated under the NDPS Act. The destroyed contraband pertained to 49 FIRs registered in Anantnag district.
During the process, approximately 345.102 kilograms of banned substances were destroyed. These included 138.25 kgs of poppy straw, 22.900 kgs of ganja, 31.936 kgs of charas, 101.68 kgs of fukki, 47.15 kgs of cannabis powder, 3.18 kgs of bung boosa, 6.23 grams of brown sugar, and 75 bottles of codeine phosphate/wisky.
Police officials said the initiative underscores the firm commitment of Jammu and Kashmir Police to curb the drug menace and ensure strict enforcement of the law. Anantnag Police also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any information regarding drug peddling or trafficking.
