Aadhaar Card Update (October 2025)
📰 Aadhaar Card Update 2025: UIDAI Increases Update Fees, Introduces Free Biometric Updates for Children
New Delhi, October 5, 2025:
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced several key updates and changes in the Aadhaar enrolment and update system effective from October 1, 2025. These include revision of service charges, free biometric updates for children, and new online update facilities to make the process more convenient for citizens.
🔹 New Fee Structure Implemented
The UIDAI has revised the fees for Aadhaar-related services across all enrolment and update centers.
According to the latest notification:
Demographic updates (like name, address, date of birth, etc.) will now cost ₹75, up from ₹50 earlier.
Biometric updates (fingerprint, iris scan, or photo) will now cost ₹125.
Document updates (Proof of Identity or Proof of Address) at enrolment centers will cost ₹75.
Online document updates via the myAadhaar portal remain free of cost until June 14, 2026.
For citizens unable to visit an Aadhaar center, the home enrolment/update service is available at ₹700, while additional members at the same address can avail of the service for ₹350 each.
🧒 Free Biometric Updates for Children
In a major relief for families, UIDAI has announced that biometric updates for children aged 5–17 years will now be completely free of cost.
This initiative aims to benefit over 6 crore children across the country and ensure that their biometric data (which changes with age) remains accurate and up to date.
🔸 Free Online Updates Extended
The free online document update facility through the official myAadhaar portal has been extended until June 14, 2026.
Citizens can log in using their Aadhaar number and OTP to upload updated Proof of Identity and Proof of Address documents from the comfort of their homes.
🔹 Major Regulatory Amendments
The Ministry of Electronics and IT has notified the Aadhaar (Enrolment and Update) Amendment Regulations, 2025, effective July 2, 2025.
The updated rules include:
A revised list of valid documents for enrolment and updates.
Streamlined verification and authentication procedures.
Greater accessibility through online self-service options.
🚉 Aadhaar Verification Now Mandatory for IRCTC Bookings
Starting October 1, 2025, the Indian Railways has made Aadhaar verification mandatory for booking train tickets on the IRCTC website during the first 15 minutes of ticket reservation windows.
This move aims to curb misuse and ensure genuine passenger identity during the Tatkal and general booking process.
🔹 UIDAI’s Future Plans – Easier Online Process
UIDAI is developing new systems to make Aadhaar updates fully online — eliminating the need to visit physical centers for most demographic changes such as name, address, date of birth, and mobile number.
This initiative is expected to roll out nationwide by November 2025, enabling citizens to update their Aadhaar seamlessly via the internet.
💡 Important Citizen Guidelines
Ensure that your mobile number is linked to your Aadhaar for OTP-based authentication.
Keep valid documents ready — such as a Passport, PAN Card, Voter ID, or utility bills — for identity and address verification.
Avoid using unauthorized agents or fake websites, as multiple Aadhaar fraud cases have been reported.
Update your Aadhaar every 10 years or whenever there are changes in personal details to keep it valid and active.
🧾 New Aadhaar Service Charges (From October 1, 2025)
Service Type New Fee Previous Fee Remarks
Demographic Update ₹75 ₹50 Name, Address, DOB, etc.
Biometric Update ₹125 ₹100 Fingerprint, Iris, Photo
Document Update (at Centre) ₹75 ₹50 Proof of Identity/Address
Online Document Update Free Free Extended till June 14, 2026

⚠️ Beware of Scams
UIDAI has warned users to remain cautious of fake agents claiming to provide Aadhaar updates.
All updates should be done through official Aadhaar Seva Kendras or via the myAadhaar portal (https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in) only.
✅ Conclusion
The latest Aadhaar update reforms reflect UIDAI’s push toward digital ease, data accuracy, and user convenience.
While certain fees have increased, the extended free online update window and free biometric updates for children are significant steps to make Aadhaar services more citizen-friendly.
