Poonch Police Foil Liquor Smuggling Bid, Recover 45 Beer Tins
Poonch, September 21:
In a major success against illicit liquor smuggling, Poonch Police recovered 45 tins of beer and arrested two individuals during a routine vehicle checking in Sawjian on Sunday.

According to officials, a police party from Police Post Sawjian intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK12D/0869 around 4 PM. The vehicle was driven by Mohd. Mukhtiar, son of Mohd. Rashid, resident of Ward No. 03, Poonch, accompanied by Sahil Ahmed, son of Munir Hussain, resident of Ward No. 03, Dungas, Poonch.

On searching the vehicle, police recovered 45 beer tins. Both accused were arrested on the spot, while the illicit liquor and the vehicle were seized.

As the duo failed to produce any valid permit or license for transporting the liquor, a case under Section 48(a) of the J&K Excise Act, 1958 has been registered at Police Station Mandi.

Police said further investigation is underway.

The District Police Poonch reiterated its commitment to curbing the menace of illicit liquor and appealed to the public to cooperate in maintaining peace and order.
