Omar Abdullah Welcomes Supreme Court Stay on Waqf Amendment Act
Srinagar, Sept 15: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision to grant a stay on the controversial Waqf Amendment Act.

Speaking to the media in Srinagar, Omar Abdullah said, “It is a good development that a stay has been granted on the Waqf Bill. We have been saying from day one that the bill was targeting followers of a single religion. It is reassuring that the Supreme Court has understood this issue.”

The Chief Minister reiterated that his government has consistently opposed the bill, maintaining that it was discriminatory in nature and undermined the principles of equality and justice. He added that the Supreme Court’s intervention has come as a relief to the communities concerned.

The Waqf Amendment Act has been at the center of heated debates and protests, with several groups alleging that the legislation unfairly targets religious institutions. The Supreme Court’s stay order is expected to provide temporary relief until a final decision on the matter is made.
