Lieutenant Governor Inaugurates Basohli Utsav in Kathua
Jammu, September 28: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha today inaugurated the Basohli Utsav at Basohli, Kathua, organised by the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Divisional Administration Jammu, and Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts.
The inaugural session was attended by Col (Retd) Mahan Singh, DDC Chairman Kathua, and Shri Thakur Darshan Singh, MLA Basohli, along with senior officers and dignitaries.

Speaking on the occasion, the Lieutenant Governor described Basohli Utsav as the “Mahakumbh of Art, Culture and Tradition” and said it reminds every section of society that they are inheritors of India’s great heritage and must contribute to the cultural renaissance and the journey towards a developed India.

Highlighting India’s rising global stature, the Lieutenant Governor said, “India’s growing economic power and our culture, art, and traditions are gaining global recognition. Our philosophical, spiritual, and artistic capability is drawing admiration worldwide, strengthening India’s soft power.”

He emphasised the importance of promoting both tangible and intangible cultural heritage and transmitting them to the younger generation as part of the Viksit Bharat vision. He said Basohli represents the complete exuberance of art and culture, adding that it is not just a geographical location but an “energy field” for seekers of art, literature, and tradition.

The Lieutenant Governor stressed the need for a “Whole of Government” approach to promote Basohli paintings across the country and abroad, ensuring prosperity for artists. He also encouraged youth participation in the symposium and Ramayana workshop being organised during the Utsav.

On the occasion, the Lieutenant Governor released five publications—‘Lok Mein Ram’, ‘Ramayan Ki Stree Gatha’, ‘Ram Ka Ghar’, ‘Ram Ki Sanjeevani’ and ‘Tribes of Ramayana’, exploring diverse dimensions of the epic.

It was announced that Basohli Utsav will be celebrated annually as part of the Department of Culture’s calendar of events.

The event was attended by Shri Atal Dulloo, Chief Secretary; Shri Brij Mohan Sharma, Principal Secretary Culture; Shri Ramesh Kumar, Divisional Commissioner Jammu; Shri Bhim Sen Tuti, IGP Jammu; Shri Shakti Kumar Pathak, Director ACB J&K; Shri Rajesh Sharma, Deputy Commissioner Kathua; Ms Shruti Awasthi, Regional Director IGNCA; Ms Harvinder Kour, Secretary JKAACL; and prominent citizens from various walks of life.
