“Kejriwal Slams Centre: Zero Tariff on US Cotton to Hurt Indian Farmers”

Zero Tariff on Cotton Imports, Big Blow to Farmers: Arvind Kejriwal
New Delhi.AAP Convenor and Delhi Ex- Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today held a press conference and made serious allegations against the Central Government. He said that the Modi Government has completely removed the import tariff on cotton coming from the United States, which earlier stood at 10 to 15 percent.

Kejriwal said this decision will cause a huge loss to Indian cotton farmers. He explained that farmers, especially in states like Gujarat, Telangana, and several others, are heavily dependent on cotton cultivation. Indian cotton is expected to arrive in the markets by October–November, but before that, cheap American cotton will enter Indian markets without any tariff. As a result, Indian farmers will struggle to sell their produce at fair prices and will incur heavy losses.

He further accused the Modi Government of always bowing down to the United States. Kejriwal said that just as America has imposed a 50% tariff on Indian products, India should also impose a 50% tariff on cotton imports from the U.S. to protect the interests of Indian farmers.

👉 Through this statement, he raised farmers’ concerns and urged the Central Government to take corrective action.
