Udhampur, Aug 16: In a major crackdown on illegal liquor smuggling, Udhampur Police today apprehended a bootlegger and recovered 90 bottles of illicit liquor in Rehambal.
A police team from Police Station Rehambal, led by the SHO, intercepted a suspicious person during patrolling duty at Malhar Morh. The individual was identified as Ram Gopal Sharma, son of Nand Lal, resident of Malhar Morh, Tehsil and District Udhampur.
Upon checking the two bags he was carrying, the police recovered 90 bottles of JK Excise Desi Whisky (180 ml each). The accused was arrested on the spot.
In this connection, FIR No. 128/2025 under Section 48(a) of the Excise Act has been registered at Police Station Rehambal. Further investigation is in progress.
Police have reaffirmed their commitment to curb the menace of illicit liquor trade in the district.
