Srinagar, July 6 – On the solemn occasion of Youm-e-Ashura, marking the 10th of Muharram, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha attended the Zuljanah procession at Botakadal in Srinagar on Sunday morning.
According to reports from JKNS, the Lieutenant Governor personally distributed water and refreshments among the mourners participating in the religious observance. He also offered a chaddar (sacred cloth) to Zuljanah before the commencement of the annual procession, symbolizing respect and solidarity with the devotees.
The event was marked by the presence of several high-ranking officials, including IGP Kashmir V.K. Birdi, SSP Srinagar, and other senior police and administrative officers, who were present to oversee the arrangements and ensure a smooth and secure observance.
Across the Kashmir Valley, similar processions were held to commemorate the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions in the historic Battle of Karbala. The district administration has appealed to the public to maintain peace and decorum and cooperate fully to preserve the sanctity of the occasion.
Youm-e-Ashura holds immense religious significance for the Muslim community, symbolizing sacrifice, faith, and resistance against injustice.
