Goran Baba Shivo Road Turns into a Path of Peril, Devotees Suffer – Roadwork Incomplete for 5 Years
Goran Baba Shivo Dham Route Tests Devotees' Faith Amid Poor Road Conditions
Samba, June 22 – The sacred shrine of Baba Shivo, located just 20 kilometers from Samba, has become a source of concern and struggle for devotees due to the deteriorated state of the access road. Thousands of pilgrims visit this holy site every Sunday and Tuesday, but the treacherous condition of the road is putting their safety and faith to the test.
While the road from Samba to Sumb is relatively manageable, the following 6 kilometers—especially the last 3 kilometers—are in a deplorable state. Following Saturday night’s rainfall, the already damaged road turned into a slippery stretch of mud and potholes. The piled-up soil has now turned into a marshy trap, causing vehicles to skid and get stuck. On Sunday, the situation became so dire that no vehicle could move forward or backward.
Devotees expressed frustration, stating that the consistent influx of pilgrims is being met with administrative apathy. Despite multiple appeals, the blacktopping work on this vital stretch of road has remained incomplete for the past five years.
Locals questioned the government's development claims, especially those made by the BJP during its decade-long rule. “If the government truly believes in development, why is such an important religious route being ignored?” a local asked.
People have urged the government and district administration to immediately pave the road leading to Baba Shivo Dham. They emphasized that the safety and convenience of devotees should be a top priority. Failure to address the issue could lead to a major accident in the future.
