Kathua, April 6: In a significant move against drug trafficking, the Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kathua have seized approximately 4.28 grams of heroin (chitta) and arrested one drug peddler at Lakhanpur. The operation was carried out under the overall supervision of SSP Kathua, Sh. Shobhit Saksena (IPS), as part of the department’s ongoing efforts to eliminate the drug menace from society.
According to the police, a team from Police Station Lakhanpur, under the close supervision of Addl. SP Kathua Sh. Rahul Charak (JKPS), DySP DAR Kathua Sh. Ritesh Sambyal, and SHO Lakhanpur Insp. Tribhawan Khajuria, was conducting special checking and patrolling near the Bye Pass Road at Shamshan Ghat in Lakhanpur.
During the operation, the team apprehended a suspect identified as Paramveer Singh, son of Swarm Singh, a resident of Near Shiv Mandir, Madhopur, Tehsil and District Pathankot. He was found moving suspiciously from Punjab towards Kathua. Upon checking, police recovered approximately 4.28 grams of heroin from his possession.
The accused was arrested on the spot, and the recovered narcotics were seized. An FIR has been registered at Police Station Lakhanpur under case number 38/2025, under sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway.
The police have urged the general public to come forward with any information related to drug peddling in their areas. Authorities have assured that strict legal action will be taken against those involved in such illegal activities. The Kathua Police reaffirmed their commitment to making society drug-free through consistent and firm action.
