ADC Kishtwar Distributes Registration Certificates to Promote Handicrafts and Handloom Cooperatives
Kishtwar, April 11, 2025:
In a significant move to empower the artisan and weaver community of Kishtwar, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kishtwar, Sh. Pawan Kotwal (JKAS), along with Assistant Director Handicrafts Kishtwar, Sh. Pardeep Shan (JKAS), distributed registration certificates to newly formed Industrial Handicrafts and Handloom Cooperative Societies.

The registration was carried out under the Financial Support Scheme of the Department of Handicrafts and Handloom, Jammu & Kashmir. Two cooperative societies were formally recognized during the event — Kuntwara Wheat Straw Handicrafts INDUSCO Ltd, Akarhang Kuntwara, and Snow Valley Cutting Tailoring Handloom INDUSCO Ltd, Passerkot Chattroo.

These societies have been registered under the Directorate of Handicrafts and Handloom, Jammu, in line with the Self-Reliant Act, 1999. The act allows 11 registered artisans or weavers to form a cooperative society, which becomes eligible for financial assistance of Rs. 1.00 lakh in two equal, non-refundable installments. The scheme also includes marketing support to promote local crafts and increase their reach.

The primary objective of the initiative is to foster self-reliance among local artisans and weavers by enabling them to work collaboratively as micro-enterprises.

Speaking at the event, ADC Kishtwar lauded the department's efforts and stressed the importance of bringing more artisans and weavers under the ambit of government welfare schemes. He instructed the Assistant Director Handicrafts and Handloom, Kishtwar, to intensify outreach and registration drives across the district to ensure wider participation.

The event was attended by Supervisor INDUSCO Mr. Abid, along with other officials and staff of the department.
