Srinagar, March 10: Thousands of casual and daily wage workers staged a massive protest in Srinagar today, demanding their long-pending regularization in government services. The protestors, who have been working in various government departments for years on meager wages, expressed their frustration over the delay in implementing a formal policy for their permanent employment.
The aggrieved workers pointed out that despite repeated assurances from the administration, no concrete steps have been taken to resolve their concerns. With the 2025 budget session already underway, the workers fear that their demand for regularization will once again be overlooked.
"We have been working for years under harsh conditions, but the government has failed to recognize our contribution. We were hopeful that the budget would include provisions for our regularization, but there is no clarity yet," said one of the protestors.
The workers accused the authorities of neglecting their plight despite their relentless struggle for job security. They also demanded a comprehensive policy that ensures fair wages and benefits for all temporary workers.
Several worker unions have extended their support to the protest, urging the government to take immediate action. The protestors warned of intensifying their agitation if their demands were not met soon.
As of now, the government has not issued any official response regarding the protest or the demands raised by the casual and daily wagers.
