Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has announced plans to develop Bungus Valley as an off-beat eco-tourism destination while maintaining a balance between tourism, environmental conservation, and local livelihoods. Addressing the Legislative Assembly, he revealed that ₹30 lakh has been allocated for the development of basic facilities, with ₹24 lakh already released. However, the utilization of funds depends on forest clearance through the Parivesh Portal.
Emphasizing eco-tourism, the government has ruled out large-scale hotels and massive infrastructure projects. Instead, efforts will focus on creating recreation facilities, rain shelters, public conveniences, signages, lighting, and waste disposal systems. To support local communities, homestays are being promoted, with 19 guest houses already registered under the Tourism Department. Additionally, a Bungus Festival is being planned to showcase the valley’s scenic beauty and attract visitors.
The government aims to position Bungus Valley as a sustainable tourism hub while ensuring environmental protection and economic benefits for local residents.
