Kathua, February 20: In a major breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown against the illegal liquor trade, Kathua Police seized approximately 40 litres of illicit liquor at Village Airwan and arrested one person on the spot.
Acting on reliable information, a police team from Police Post (PP) Nagri, under the supervision of DySP Headquarters Kathua and SHO PS Kathua, conducted a special checking operation on February 19. During the operation, they apprehended a suspect, identified as Rahul Kumar, son of Salinder Kumar, resident of Chack Drab Khan, Tehsil & District Kathua. He was intercepted while traveling in a vehicle bearing registration number PB06BE-5320.
Upon checking, the police recovered approximately 40 litres of illicit (Desi) liquor from his possession, which he was allegedly selling illegally in Village Airwan for personal profit. The illicit liquor and the vehicle involved in the crime were seized on the spot, and the accused was taken into custody.
A case has been registered under FIR No. 85/2025 U/S 48(a) of the Excise Act at Police Station Kathua, and further investigation is underway.
Kathua Police has urged the public to report any such illegal activities by calling 100. The identity of informants will be kept confidential.
