Anantnag, February 1, 2025:In a significant step towards curbing the drug menace, the Anantnag Police have intensified their crackdown on drug peddlers in the region. As part of the ongoing efforts, two drug peddlers were arrested, and a large quantity of narcotic substances was recovered from their possession in separate operations.
Major Drug Bust in Mattan
Acting on a specific intelligence input from reliable sources, the Police Station Mattan received information that one Hilal Ahmad Wani, son of Farooq Ahmad Wani, a resident of Kralgund Brah Mattan, was involved in the illicit trade of narcotic substances. Reports suggested that he had stockpiled a large quantity of contraband in his residential house.
Taking immediate action, a case was registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Police Station Mattan. Following due procedure, a team comprising personnel from Anantnag Police and the concerned Executive Magistrate was formed to conduct a thorough search of the suspect's residence.
During the search operation, approximately 4 kilograms of charas powder was recovered from the house. The police promptly arrested Hilal Ahmad Wani, and the recovered contraband was seized as per legal protocol. Investigations into the case are ongoing, and further revelations are expected.
Naka Checking Yields Another Arrest in Bijbehara
In another major success against drug trafficking, a Police Party from Police Post Sangam, during a routine naka (checkpoint) checking near Tulkhan Crossing, intercepted a suspicious individual. Upon questioning and a subsequent personal search, the police recovered 14 grams of brown sugar from his possession.
The suspect, identified as Saber Ahmad Sheikh, son of Roni Sheikh, a resident of Delhi, was immediately taken into custody. A case was registered against him at Police Station Bijbehara, and the contraband was seized as evidence.

The Anantnag Police have reiterated their firm stance against drug-related activities in the region. Authorities have assured the public that such operations will continue to ensure the safety and well-being of society.
