Kathua, February 24: In a significant operation, the Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kathua seized cash amounting to ₹35,08,830 during a late-night vehicle checking at Bhagthalli checkpoint.
According to officials, during the intervening night of February 23-24, a police team from PS Kathua, under the guidance of DySP Headquarters Kathua and SHO PS Kathua, and overall supervision of SSP Kathua Sh. Shobhit Saksena (IPS), set up a checkpoint at Naka Bhagthalli. At around 1:15 AM, a suspicious white Hyundai i20 car without a registration number, traveling from Keerian Gandiyal towards Kathua, was stopped for inspection.
During the search, one of the two occupants of the vehicle managed to escape under the cover of darkness, while the other, identified as Sajad, son of Koiga, resident of Bathra Sua No. 1, Jammu, was arrested on the spot. Upon checking the vehicle, the police recovered a huge sum of ₹35,08,830 in cash.
The Income Tax Department has been informed, and further investigation is underway to determine the source and purpose of the seized cash.
