Anantnag, February 07, 2025: Continuing its relentless efforts to curb the drug menace, Anantnag Police arrested two drug peddlers and seized a significant quantity of narcotic substances.
Acting on specific intelligence, Police Station Mattan launched an operation against drug trafficking. Reliable sources informed the police that Farooq Ahmad Kumar, son of Mohd Subhan Kumar, a resident of Khul Chohar Mattan, was involved in drug peddling and had stored a large quantity of narcotics at his residence. Based on this input, a case under the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Mattan, and an investigation was initiated.
A team comprising Anantnag Police officials and the concerned Executive Magistrate conducted a raid at the suspect's residence. During the search, authorities recovered approximately 10 kilograms of Charas powder along with cash amounting to ₹2,16,650. The accused was arrested, and the contraband was seized. Further investigations in the case are ongoing.
In a separate operation, a police team from Police Station Pahalgam set up a checkpoint at Langabal Pahalgam, leading to the arrest of another drug peddler, Shahrukh Ahmad Sheikh, son of Mohd Ramzan Sheikh, a resident of Sheikh Mohalla Sallar. A total of 120 grams of Charas was recovered from his possession. A case was registered at Police Station Pahalgam, and the accused was taken into custody.
Anantnag Police has reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating the drug menace and ensuring the safety of the community. The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
