In a significant move to curb noise pollution and public nuisance, the Police Post Pounichak, under the leadership of ICPP Pounichak, conducted a strict enforcement drive against violations of the Motor Vehicles Act in the Pounichak area. As part of this operation, authorities seized five two-wheelers fitted with illegal modifications such as modified silencers, pressure horns, and other alterations. Several other violators of the Motor Vehicles Act were also issued challans during the drive.
The action was initiated following numerous complaints from local residents, who expressed their distress over the loud and disruptive noises caused by these unauthorized modifications. Many had raised concerns about the impact of such activities on their daily lives and the overall environment in the area.
In addition to targeting individual violators, the authorities announced their intention to expand the enforcement efforts to other parts of the Rural Zone of Jammu. The focus will also include identifying and penalizing individuals and businesses involved in the sale and installation of unauthorized silencers, as well as those using unregistered vehicles.
Legal and Safety Implications
Unauthorized modifications, such as altering vehicle silencers or installing pressure horns, are illegal under the Motor Vehicles Act. Such alterations not only contribute to noise pollution but also compromise the efficiency of the vehicle and pose serious safety risks to both the rider and others on the road.
The police further highlighted the alarming rise in the use of unregistered vehicles for criminal activities, including snatching and drug peddling. These vehicles, often lacking proper identification, pose significant challenges to law enforcement agencies.
Strict Penalties for Violators
Authorities are urging vehicle owners to avoid making such illegal modifications and to comply with all provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. Those found violating the regulations will face strict penalties, including hefty fines and vehicle seizure.
The police have reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring a safe environment for residents. They have appealed to the public to cooperate in this initiative by reporting any illegal activities related to vehicle modifications or unregistered vehicles.
This crackdown serves as a clear message to violators and emphasizes the authorities’ dedication to addressing issues of public concern in Jammu.
