Udhampur, January 21, 2025: In a major breakthrough against social crimes, the District Police Udhampur apprehended a bootlegger and seized a substantial quantity of illicit liquor during a routine checkpoint operation.
The arrest took place near the Tawi Bridge on the Ramnagar-Udhampur road during naka checking conducted by a team from Police Post Roundomail, led by its Incharge Police Post (ICPP). While inspecting vehicles, the team stopped an Ecco car bearing registration number JK14F-8240 for a routine check.
Upon thorough inspection of the vehicle, the police uncovered a massive haul of illicit liquor, comprising 16 boxes containing 576 bottles of 250 ml each and 200 bottles of 180 ml each. The driver, identified as Shotu Ram, son of Paras Ram and a resident of Bhatyari, Ramnagar, was immediately arrested on the spot.
The case has been formally registered under FIR No. 32/2025 in Police Station Udhampur under Section 48(a) of the Excise Act, and further investigations are underway to determine the source and destination of the illegal consignment.
The District Police have reiterated their commitment to curbing social crimes and warned individuals involved in such illegal activities of strict action. This operation highlights the proactive measures being taken by law enforcement agencies to maintain law and order in the region.
