In a bid to ensure strict compliance with traffic rules and regulations, the Jammu Police conducted surprise nakas (checkpoints) in South Jammu's Gandhinagar and Narwal Transport Yard areas. This operation led to the issuance of 32 challans and the seizure of 15 vehicles for various traffic violations, demonstrating a zero-tolerance policy against those flouting rules.
The operation primarily targeted violations of the Supreme Court's guidelines on tinted vehicle glasses, rogue behavior on roads, and general traffic offenses. Additionally, 10 long-parked or junk vehicles were lifted from the Narwal Transport Yard area. These vehicles were not only blocking traffic and encroaching on public spaces but also posed a serious security threat, given the area's history of a terrorist-initiated IED blast in January 2023.
Key Objectives of the Operation
1. Enforcement of Supreme Court Directives: Strict action was taken against vehicles with excessively tinted glasses, in line with the Hon’ble Supreme Court’s orders.
2. Enhanced Security Measures: With Republic Day approaching, the checkpoints aimed to bolster security measures to prevent any untoward incidents.
3. Traffic Rule Enforcement: Violations such as over-speeding, wrong parking, and lack of valid vehicle documentation were dealt with firmly.
4. Deterrence of Offenses: The visible presence of the naka acted as a deterrent to traffic violations.
5. Drive Against Gun Culture: Slogans or signs promoting gun culture found on two-wheelers and four-wheelers were removed, and vehicles involved in extreme cases were seized.
The surprise operation was led by senior officials, including the SP South, SDPO South, SDPO East, and SHOs, who coordinated the drive in a professional and planned manner. All types of vehicles, including matadors, buses, cars, auto-rickshaws, and two-wheelers, were thoroughly inspected.
Outcome of the Drive
32 Challans Issued: For various offenses under the Motor Vehicles Act.
15 Vehicles Seized: Non-compliant vehicles were impounded.
10 Junk Vehicles Removed: Long-abandoned vehicles in the Narwal Transport Yard were lifted to clear encroachments and address security concerns.
The operation garnered widespread appreciation from the general public and netizens, who lauded the Jammu Police for their proactive measures to ensure road safety and security.
Such surprise nakas not only help enforce traffic laws but also play a crucial role in maintaining public safety, especially during sensitive periods like the lead-up to Republic Day celebrations. The Jammu Police has assured continued vigilance and regular drives to ensure law and order on the roads.
