Kathua, January 19, 2025: In a significant step towards its ongoing "War on Drugs" campaign, the Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kathua district achieved another breakthrough by apprehending a drug peddler and seizing approximately 85 grams of charas-like narcotic substance. The arrest was made near Dhagger Bridge under the jurisdiction of Police Station Bani.
On January 19, 2025, the police received credible information about the trade of narcotics and psychotropic substances, specifically charas, in the Bani area. Acting promptly on the tip-off, a special police team from Police Station Bani conducted a naka (checkpoint) near Dhagger Bridge to intercept suspicious individuals.
During the operation, the police apprehended a suspect identified as Vinod Singh, son of Parmi, a resident of Kilore Asso, Bani. Upon frisking, approximately 85 grams of charas-like substance was recovered from his possession. The accused was allegedly involved in smuggling and selling narcotics in the region, targeting the youth of Bani for drug peddling.
The recovered substance was seized on the spot, and Vinod Singh was arrested. A formal case under FIR No. 10/2025 has been registered at Police Station Bani under sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act).
Speaking about the incident, a senior police official reaffirmed their commitment to eradicating drug menace from society and ensuring a safer environment for the youth. He further emphasized the importance of community cooperation in reporting suspicious activities related to narcotics.
The investigation into the case is ongoing, and efforts are being made to identify and dismantle the supply chain involved in the illegal drug trade in the region.
