Jammu, January 16, 2025: The Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Surinder Kumar Choudhary, underscored the importance of promoting local industries to bolster the Union Territory's economy and create employment opportunities. His remarks came during a visit to the JKI (Jammu & Kashmir Industries) Showroom in Jammu, where he reviewed the range of products and initiatives undertaken to support indigenous crafts.
During the visit, the Dy CM lauded the efforts of JKI in preserving and promoting traditional Kashmiri crafts, including the famed silk and wool products. He emphasized that these crafts are not just a source of economic strength but also represent the rich cultural heritage of Jammu and Kashmir.
"The government is committed to providing all possible support to local industries and artisans," the Dy CM said. "By empowering indigenous crafts, we can open up avenues for large-scale employment while simultaneously boosting the local economy."
The Deputy Chief Minister also highlighted the growing global demand for authentic Kashmiri silk and wool products, urging local artisans and businesses to leverage this opportunity. He assured them of the government's backing in terms of policy support, financial aid, and market expansion initiatives.
As part of the government’s commitment, Choudhary announced plans to modernize existing infrastructure, introduce skill development programs, and facilitate access to national and international markets. He also encouraged young entrepreneurs to venture into the crafts industry, which he described as a “treasure trove of potential.”
The visit concluded with an interactive session where artisans shared their challenges, including the rising costs of raw materials and limited market access. The Dy CM assured them that these issues would be addressed on priority to ensure their sustainable growth.
With the government’s renewed focus on strengthening local industries, Jammu and Kashmir is poised to emerge as a hub for high-quality, traditional crafts that not only preserve its heritage but also contribute significantly to its economic progress.
