Anantnag, January 27, 2025: In a major victory against drug trafficking, Anantnag Police successfully seized 6.27 kilograms of narcotics in two separate operations carried out by Police Stations Srigufwara and Mattan.
In the first operation, a police team from Srigufwara established a checkpoint on the Sirhama link road. During the naka checking, a suspicious individual carrying a bag attempted to flee but was promptly apprehended by the vigilant officers. Upon interrogation, the individual was identified as Ab Rehman Mir, son-in-law of Mohd Akbar Nengroo, and a resident of Sirhama. A search of his belongings led to the recovery of 1.270 kilograms of cannabis powder. A case under FIR No. 04/2025 was registered under the NDPS Act, and further investigations are underway.
In a separate operation, acting on specific intelligence, a police team from Mattan raided the residence of Javid Ahmad Padder, son of Gh Ahmad Padder, in Pethnambal Mattan. During the search, 5 kilograms of Charas powder were recovered from the house. A case under FIR No. 05/2025 was registered at Police Station Mattan, and the accused was arrested along with the seized contraband.
Anantnag Police reiterated their commitment to eradicating the drug menace in the region and urged the public to share information about any illegal activities. Community cooperation, they emphasized, is vital in achieving a drug-free society.
