27 Bottles of Illicit Whisky Seized in Kathua, One Arrested
Kathua, January 16: In a significant crackdown on illegal liquor trade, Kathua Police arrested one bootlegger and seized 27 bottles of JK Special Whisky (375 ml each) in the Bani area of Kathua district.

Under the supervision of SSP Kathua, Sh. Shobhit Saksena (IPS), a team from PS Bani, led by DySP Ops Bani and SHO PS Bani, conducted a naka checking operation on January 15, 2025. During the operation, a suspect, identified as Madan Lal, son of Parmanand, resident of Barmota, Tehsil Bani, was intercepted under suspicious circumstances.

Upon searching, police recovered 27 bottles of illicit whisky from his possession. The accused had reportedly planned to sell the liquor in the area for personal profit. The consignment was seized on the spot, and the accused was arrested.

A case under FIR No. 06/2025 U/S 48 (a) of the Excise Act has been registered at PS Bani, and further investigation is underway.

SSP Kathua assured that the police are committed to curbing the illegal trade and transportation of liquor in the district. He urged the public to support law enforcement by reporting any suspicious activities.

The local community has praised the Kathua Police for their proactive action, expressing hope that such measures will discourage others from engaging in illegal activities.
